Insulation FAQs

  • Biological carbon sequestration represents one of nature's most powerful tools in the battle against climate change. This natural process involves the absorption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by plant-rich landscapes like forests, grasslands, and rangelands. This captured carbon can either return to the atmosphere or get transferred into the soil when the plant life decomposes.

By using wood-fiber insulation, we're allowing our customers to partake in carbon sequestration within the very walls of their homes. Instead of this captured carbon being released back into the atmosphere or stored in the soil, TimberFill insulation safely sequesters it within the product itself, effectively making your home a carbon storage site.

  • Bio-based insulation is an excellent choice for several reasons. It's environmentally friendly and made from renewable natural materials that have a low carbon footprint. Because of this, it's the healthiest option and is free from harmful chemicals and fibers that can cause health problems. Bio-based insulation performs well, providing excellent thermal and acoustic insulation, regulating humidity and moisture levels, and improving indoor air quality. Finally, it's cost-effective, often competitive with traditional insulation materials (ask about your rebate options!), saving money in the long run.

  • These traditional insulation materials can release harmful fibers and volatile organic compounds into the air, causing health issues. Additionally, fiberglass and foam are energy intensive and can made from non-renewable resources, making them less sustainable than bio-based insulation. It’s also important to note that fiberglass insulation is known to have a shorter lifespan than bio-based insulation, resulting in more waste and costs over time. While fiberglass may seem cost-effective in the short term, it does not offer the same long-term cost savings as bio-based insulation. For a smarter choice, consider bio-based insulation that is healthier, sustainable, and cost-effective.
