Why We Started Cloud9

Cloud9 Insulation is a proud Minnesota company poised at the intersection of home performance, energy savings, and proactive (plus practical) climate change solutions. Buildings account for nearly 40% of global carbon dioxide emissions, and on a rapidly changing planet, the pressure to apply smarter solutions is past due. Utilizing insulation materials such as wood fiber (popular in Europe, but finally taking off here) enables us not only to facilitate homeowners in reducing their energy expenses—potentially cutting up to 15-20% on heating and cooling costs —but also in minimizing our collective carbon impact, planting the seeds for a more sustainable Minnesota.

We do this by using insulation materials that actively sequester carbon (removing CO2 from the environment) that perform just as well (and sometimes better) than traditional high embodied carbon insulation solutions. By choosing wood fiber insulation, which is recognized for both its energy conservation and inherent carbon dioxide capture during its lifecycle, we place ourselves at the point of not only reducing emissions from our dwellings but also actively turning our homes into de facto carbon sinks. We aim to educate and insulate homes while enveloping our communities in a commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and actionable climate strategy, assuring that every Minnesotan contributes to our shared, sustainable future.

Insulation Innovation:
Why Minnesota Homes Choose Cloud9

  1. 75% of Minnesota homes are under-insulated

  2. Home heating and cooling costs are soaring

  3. Better insulation can reduce home energy bills by up to 20% per year

  4. Increasing residential efficiency could be the largest source of reduced greenhouse gas emissions in the US

  5. We’ve partnered with the first US-based wood fiber insulation plant (Europe has had them for decades)

  6. Federal tax credits make it more affordable
